  1. a) Will the service be sung, or just spoken?

    b) Does the community have a website?

    c) Is there an Anglican Use Mass anywhere else in the Washington Archdiocese? Is this prayer service so far the only liturgical function of this group?

    Thanks, Father!

    • Dear Eric,

Thanks for asking. I hope you'll join us if you're in the area. We are still a work in progress, but we are coming along.

      a) At the first EP at St. Anselm's on Sept. 11 we sang the canticles & the Phos Hilaron (which may also be considered a canticle, for all I know) but said the rest. This time, I believe we will sing at least one hymn in addition to the sung canticles.

      b) No website as yet.

      c) Yes, the EP service is it so far. Not everyone in the group is across the Tiber yet, so this was thought to be a good way to rally the troops, so to speak.

    • No, it isn't a Mass, it's a public recitation of the Office. You may wish to head over to Immaculate Conception at 8th & N Streets, NW for their Latin Novus Ordo, Sunday nights at 6:00 PM, after Evensong.

      • FYI: Just in case anyone is confused, there is no "evensong" at Immaculate Conception at 8th and N. There is, however, a Latin Novus Ordo at 6 pm on Sundays, which is worth supporting. In addition, for those who are interested, Immaculate Conception has its annual Novena to St. Jude starting next Wednesday, with the veneration of a relic of St. Jude, and the Apostolic Nuncio is coming to the 11 am mass on Oct. 24. The music at the 11 am mass is in a "gospel choir" style adapted for Catholic worship.

Immaculate Conception is not Anglican Use, but it is a parish worth attending if you are in DC on a Sunday morning.

  2. Sorry, yes, I meant that you could go to Evensong at St. Anselm's Abbey at 4:45, then head over to IC for the Latin NO Mass at 6.

  3. Just so there's no confusion- the Anglican Use Evening Prayer Service is on SATURDAY evening, while the 6pm Mass at Immaculate Conception appears to be on SUNDAY.
