The Nineteenth Day of September,
The Year of Our Lord 2010
On the Occasion of the Beatification of
Cardinal John Henry Newman
by His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI,
in Birmingham, England.
Petition for Reception into the Ordinariate
Greetings in the Name of the Most Holy Trinity.
We, the officers of the bishop’s committee of Holy Cross Church, Honolulu, Hawai`i, a mission church of the Diocese of the West, of the Anglican Church in America, Traditional Anglican Communion, after much prayerful consideration, do sense the guidance of the Holy Spirit toward unification with the universal Catholic Church.
Therefore, in a spirit of humility and with grateful hearts, we do hereby make formal and official our petition to be received into the Ordinariate which is soon to be established for catholic-minded Anglicans in these United States, under the provisions of the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum coetibus, which was promulgated by the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI in November of A. D. 2009.
We take this action in the prayerful hope that His Holiness and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith will look favorably upon our request, and at the earliest date possible, receive us into full communion with the Catholic Church. As we continue, for the time being, under the direction of our own bishop ordinary of the Diocese of the West, the Rt. Rev. Daren K. Williams, who supports our action, we seek further guidance from both the local and universal episcopal authorities of the Catholic Church.
Soliciting with joyful hearts the intercession of Blessed John Henry Newman, beatified this Lord’s Day, the Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity, the Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, A. D. 2010, we, the undersigned officers of Holy Cross Church, Honolulu, do humbly submit this petition for your gracious adjudication.

We are a small mission church of catholic-minded Anglicans residing in and near Honolulu, Hawai`i. We belong to the Diocese of the West, of the Anglican Church in America. The bishops of the ACA have, in hopeful response to the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum coetibus, requested the establishment of an ordinariate in these United States.
It was with expectancy that we heard the glad tidings of last week that the Vatican had appointed your Excellency the pastoral delegate for the establishment of the same, and that you will have Fr. Scott Hurd to assist you in this matter.
Please find enclosed our petition to be received as a mission into the ordinariate. We eagerly await instructions from your office as to the next steps that need to be taken as we seek inclusion into the Catholic Church.
Your servant in our one Lord Jesus Christ,
The Rev. Fr. Lawrence B. Wheeler
