Cardinal Levada to Give Two Talks in Canada

I sure love my job.  Today I'm working on a story about the upcoming visit of Cardinal William Levada, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, to Canada.  He's going to be speaking in Kingston, Ontario Mar. 6 at Queen's University on . . . drum roll please . . .

Five hundred years after St. John Fisher: Pope Benedict XVI’s ecumenical initiatives to Anglicans

The event is the Fisher Dinner, a fundraiser for the university's Newman Centre and Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO), a dynamic evangelistic outreach to Catholic students.   The cost is $60 if anyone is thinking of trekking to Kingston.  I will be there with bells on.   Kingston is less than a two hour drive from Ottawa and less than three hours from Toronto.  I have contact information to reserve tickets if anyone needs it.

Father Raymond de Souza, Queen's chaplain, parish priest, columnist and broadcaster, organized the event.  He brought Cardinal George Pell to Canada last year.  Alas, I missed meeting him.  Fr. de Souza told me this morning that last summer Cardinal Levada suggested ecumenism as a topic.

"After the Apostolic Constitution was announced, I told him that would be of particular interest to us in Canada," he said.

Levada will then come to Ottawa two days later to speak at a CCO gala fundraiser at a hotel downtown Mar. 8.  He'll celebrate the Eucharist at beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica at 4:30 p.m.  The talk is entitled: The Catholic Faith: Is it Worth Passing On?

Tickets for this cost $125 and it's expected to be sold-out within the next few weeks.

UPDATE (January 21, 2009 4:40 PM EST):

Here's info on the talk at Queen's University:

The Program will also include Rev. Raymond J. De Souza (Chaplain of the Newman House at Queen's University) and Jeff Lockert (President of Catholic Christian Outreach). This evening will fill you with hope by hearing about the important missionary work that is happening on University Campuses across Canada. You will also hear from Queens students who have been affected by the missionaries working for CCO.

The John Fisher dinner is a fundraising dinner that will aid Catholic Christian Outreach in the important missionary work they do at Queen's University together with the Newman House.
