I thought I would do a brief article on this recent precedent to our future Ordinariates. Obviously, Anglicanorum Coetibus is an entirely new canonical and juridical framework, but certain parallels are to be seen.

A “presumed” miracle attributed to the intercession of Venerable Pope Pius XII is under investigation by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Pope Benedict XVI approved a decree of the heroic virtues of Pius XII on December 19, 2009, clearing the way for his eventual beatification.

ARCIC priest named Bishop of Saskatoon. Msgr. Donald Bolen served seven years on the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, from 2001 to 2008, with responsibility for Anglican-Roman Catholic dialogue. Fr. Bolen was friendly to the TAC during his tenure with the PCPCU and it’s good to see an ARCIC priest promoted. H/t to James More >

Clerical abuse victims, RC traditionalists, and many other Catholics (and non-Catholics as well) will never accept John Paul II as a saint. Few doubt the man’s personal sanctity or orthodoxy; but in terms of his pontificate, and his legacy… there are too many problems that cannot simply be swept under the rug.
This santo subito business has got to stop. The personality cult built up around the late pontiff — with his tacit approval — is not the way popes should be seen. Popes are not rock star celebutants.
I don’t mean to sound bitter, but the abuse scandal in particular has been a disastrous episode in Church history. These stories are profoundly distressing and stand in stark contrast with the supposed “new Springtime of evangelization.” We cannot ignore the fact that John Paul II largely chose to look the other way when confronted with the problem.
