Mr. Campbell, On the sacramental ministry of women: I am female. I have no calling to be ordained and I prefer male clergy, BUT….I don't know where I've been since 1976! I've never heard a convincing argument against the ordination of women other than tradition and the inerrancy of the Bible (which version?). I don't want to bring the sky down upon my head, but please enlighten me in a reasonable and loving manner. I have a need to understand.

    • What better argument is there than tradition and the inerrancy of the Bible? It is precisely because the Church is informed by Holy Writ and the Apostolic Tradition that the priesthood is conferred only on males.

I would refer you to the Apostolic Letter Ordinatio Sacerdotalis of Pope John Paul II which is definitive on the subject. While this letter is not in and of itself considered infallible, the teaching therein is infallible under the ordinary Magisterium, as this doctrine has been held consistently by the Catholic Church.
